Volunteer FAQs

How do I sign up?

Signup is simple. Just pick your role and time slot online here. Fill out your contact info and T-shirt size, and you’re all set. You’ll receive a confirmation email immediately after filling out the form and we will be in touch with you personally via email as well.

Kwik Star has you covered. Visit their new location off Exit 2 along I-380 when it opens July 2024. Kwik Star is the proud sponsor of North Liberty Blues & BBQ’s volunteer program.

What are the perks of volunteering for North Liberty Blues & BBQ?
  • A special Blues & BBQ 2024 T-shirt
  • A $5 voucher to be used towards food or for a complimentary beverage
  • Free water (and delivered to you, too!)
  • A fanny pack with cool things from our sponsors
  • Reserved event parking
  • Community service hours credit
  • We just have a GREAT time and you get to be a part of it!

Who can volunteer?

  • All volunteers must be cheerful, flexible, and ready to welcome guests and enjoy this great festival!
  • Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to sign up without a parent or legal guardian
  • Volunteers age 16+ are welcome to volunteer with our inflatables
  • Volunteers age 21+ are welcome to volunteer in our beverage garden. Additionally, volunteers should not consume alcohol during their shift or arrive for their shift intoxicated.

Can my group earn money to volunteer?

Yes! We are seeking local nonprofit, teams and organizations to help our festival be environmentally friendly! Volunteers will walk assigned areas of the park to help ensure that disposable items get put in the right containers (compost, recycling and trash) and help clear and clean tables. Educate the public, smile, and thank people for separating their throw-aways! At least two volunteers per shift need a valid driver’s license to drive golf carts to change out the bag liners in bins and haul full bags to dumpsters. Training and gloves provided upon arrival. Contact Angela at amillard@northlibertyiowa.org or (319) 626-5770 with your interest.

Can I bring a friend to volunteer with me even if there aren’t slots for both of us?

Many of our volunteers recruit their friends to join the team – that’s one of the things that makes our Blues volunteer team so awesome! However, we ask for a specific number of volunteers at each location to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved. We ask that you please choose a role and shift that has slots for both of you. Without a name, contact info, and T-shirt size, your friend won’t be “official” at that location and may be asked to either leave that area, or help in another area.

What do volunteers do?

It takes a volunteer force of nearly 300 people to put on this all-ages, family-friendly party. Roles range from servers in our beverage garden to helping kids at the inflatables, and all kinds of things in between. Shifts range from two to four hours during the event.

Can’t join us the day of? Your help is needed the day before and after, too. For a full list of volunteer roles and descriptions, refer to our sign up page.

What should volunteers bring and wear?

  • Blues & BBQ takes place outside rain or shine, so dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes.
  • All volunteers must wear our official Blues volunteer T-shirt during their shifts. If you are signed up to volunteer as a business or group, you are welcome to wear your own branded shirts as long as they match.
  • Please leave all valuables at home.
  • Bring your ID and some cash (or an ATM card) for great food from our vendors.

How can I help out now, before the festival?

  • Spread the word! Please pass along this info to anyone you know who might be interested in joining our volunteer team. We welcome new faces to the team each year!
  • Like us on Facebook to help get the word out!
