March 10, 2021 — No one is more disappointed than we are, those who have hosted Blues & BBQ since its founding in 2007, to announce we again won’t be hosting the festival in 2021.

We’re optimistic and excited that our community will be in a better place this July, however going from zero to 60 – or 17,000 guests – would potentially be too fast and irresponsible. But, don’t worry: North Liberty’s summer won’t be short on summer fun, and later this spring the City of North Liberty will announce its slate.

Blues & BBQ is about bringing all of North Liberty together — and inviting folks from across the state and beyond to join us — for a free, no-tickets-needed day. Whatever we planned, unfortunately, wouldn’t be that, especially with only a few months to plan when, in a typical year, we begin planning nine months out. We value what the festival is, our volunteers, our supporters and our community too much to attempt to fit the square peg of the city’s largest festival into the round hole of this lingering-pandemic summer. We’re appreciative of our festival sponsors’ support of this decision, especially our presenting sponsor Veridian Credit Union.

So, Blues & BBQ will return when the Blues & BBQ we all love can return safely in all its summer glory.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for a full run of pandemic-friendly summer fun: events that are free, can easily adjust to comply with public health recommendations and provide a mix of virtual and in-person programs for all ages. Events residents can look forward to and, most importantly, count on after a year of shifting plans, stand ins and alternatives

We look forward to reconnecting with the community this summer and are eager to be back in 2022.
