The Tanya English Band
July 9, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

The Tanya English Band has been playing women’s empowerment blues for 10 years, now. It all started when Dr. Tanya English heeded the call to unleash her inner blues singer. Twenty-eight years ago, Tanya had a profound experience at the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest tent stage with the Blind Boys of Alabama. Following the stillbirth of their son earlier that year, she “felt waves of love and healing surrounding me” as the blues music washed over her. It was a life-changing moment she now shares with her healing clients who may have encountered significant loss in their own lives. She’s continued to study and practice healing as a licensed chiropractor.
In 2012, Tanya made her singing debut opening for her mentor and friend, Miss Gloria Hardiman. Tanya’s husband, “Uncle Ed” English, is a well-known bass player and veteran of the regional blues scene and a steadfast supporter of her healing work. As a long-time fan of the blues, she began sitting in with the Monday Night All-Stars at George’s in Iowa City, then started her own band with Ed on bass. Iowa City guitar phenom, Sam Price soon joined the band and will be joined by Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Sean Seaton on keyboards and Matt Bernemann on drums.
